Basic Analysis Before Self- Reliant India

by R.Koushik 18.06.2020

Dear fellow citizens,

Things to be done before dreaming about self-reliance

Before going into the story of self-reliance, there are certain aspects that must be first ensured it has been taken care of. The next step should be to plot a suitable plan for the future.

A country can become a super power only when the basic necessities of all its people are met.

Now sure there will be a certain number of poor people who might not be able to afford certain things in their life but we should ensure that a majority of people are able to afford the most basic things in their day to day life according to 21st century standards.

Analysing the conditions

As the citizens of this nation we should understand that we are immensely diverse in everything. The same type of situation wouldn't be prevailing in all the parts of the nation. let us think for moment why are we like this , the way we are now. As a general citizen, don't we all have the basic duty to know about our own surroundings?

While we are blaming China, rightfully so, we must also look back at ourselves. We ourselves are not united with a common goal. We are all separated by agendas, race, religion, caste, etc. For opposing another nation we should all first be one nation with one mind. As Indians. So what hinders us from attaining that state?

That's because we have not yet completely attained the basic necessities a citizen should get. So how could one expect those who didn't get what they deserve, to align with those who have things in abundance?

Knowing your region, its strength and deficiencies

We must all be proud of our rich heritage. There's no denial in that. Every citizen has the right to feel so. At the same time, one should also know the reality of his/her regions. It's current state, the issues prevailing there etc. We must know the basic geography of the land, it's natural features, what it can possesses and what it cannot. A place cannot have everything that humans require.

So, understanding the region helps us to asses it's strength. For example, people of a state should know what their state is capable of cultivating, how rich their soil is, what are the natural conditions there etc. Knowing about the population can help us use the human resources effectively.

Just like knowing, what we can do, it is equally or even more important to be aware of what we cannot do at a place. There's nothing to be ashamed of lacking a resource, falling short in a certain aspect. Apples can be well cultivated in regions like Kashmir only. Rice can be done well in Southern most states. People in Tamilnadu should not cry over their inability to cultivate alpine vegetation, rather they should do what they can best.

Pride of the past or the Vision of Future?

Take an example of Elon Musk. While the whole world has been seen worrying about their past, and fighting over petty silly issues, he dreamed about a potential future on behalf of all of us. While we were fighting for age old religions and temples, someone like him envisioned a possible future and started working towards it.

He asked the question to himself, 'What if the world ends in a few decades and we have no place to live in?' That question made him to draw a plan. His vision of human settlement in Mars. This will definitely sound like a joke for 99% of the people right now. But once such a future, comes in front of us, He will be far ahead of us, while we will be even struggling to understand what's happening.

But this need not be the vision of all nations. It's just an example. So we as Indians also should think ahead of time, plan ahead of time, create a potentially brighter future plan.

Ensuring everyone aligns with a bigger dream

What stops us from becoming a unified land? If someone cannot understand what another is talking about then where is the broken link that caused it? First of all, do we acknowledge what is to be done to mend that chain?

Well. We believe, if a person has to be well informed, he needs to be in touch with the world. Though being the most populous nation, is that the case here? Have every person been connected to the world and got access to education and internet? Why not?

We cannot ask a man who is already in hunger and in the lack of education to imagine a thing which is far greater than he could ever dream. It will make less sense.

Let's see what first must be done in an order to attain the final stage.

Laying Basic foundation for people

The hierarchy of development in a place should be like the following.

1.     Population management

Most of us don't even acknowledge that the main cause for most of our problems is over population. We have a limited geographical boundary. We could only clear a certain percentage of natural regions. It's resources are limited, it's finite. If life is left unchecked, it might lead to unwanted misery. More the number of people, more the resources that are scrapped. We cannot ensure the same quality if only quantity is our concern. Right from basics needs to jobs to living conditions, population affects everything. Think of the future generations to come, if you are really concerned about your nation. Then take a personal decision for it.

2.    Road connectivity

First of all make sure all the places are at least connected well enough so that , minimum two wheeler can get an easy access. There are several places all over India that's very remote that it's nearly impossible to reach. First a country should fulfill this infrastructure.

3.    Transportation

Now we have roads. Connecting roads is not just enough. Next is making sure there's a regular transport facility connecting all places. This sector should only be with the government. Privatization of transport will lead to a profit motive game and ultimately destroy the purpose of connectivity.

The state of Tamil Nadu is a great example of how government over sees the rural and urban transportation, making sure everyone can avail it. The state has a Bus pass system which even helps the poorest of poor students.

4.    Cellular connectivity

Make sure at least all the places are connected to 3G level of services. Means of calling has become almost a basic necessity. Once there are well connected roads and transport, it's easy to setup , connectivity towers. Moving equipments , labor won't be an issue.

5.       Electrification

Simultaneously, make sure each and every area gets electrified. We must resort to renewable sources like Solar power for very rural areas as it is a one-time cost project. This will help in a long run. Government should make sure their government buildings adopt it first. Provide electricity for Agriculture for free as that is the major driving force of our economy.

6.    Schools and Hospitals

Once we fulfill the road connectivity vision, it is one step closer to building schools and Primary healthcare facilities. Now there are roads, means of transport to reach schools and hospitals.

7.    Internet connectivity

The latest should be the basic internet connectivity to all places. As world is rapidly developing it is utterly necessary for a web connected world. But this will only be possible only if the above mentioned developments are fulfilled. Only then it will make sense. Schools and hospital systems can make use of the internet to their advantage. People themselves can learn and interact with world to know better.

These are all the necessary living needs as per the upcoming decade that every citizen of India should get.

But have we reached all these? Ask the right questions. Find the answers. Only after providing these facilities to each and every person, we can step forward in thinking about a Visionary future.
